Amanda M. Richards

Biography

Amanda Richards has practiced in the area of civil litigation since 2003. Before joining the Carmoney Law Firm as a partner in 2025, she practiced at Betty, Neuman & McMahon, P.L.C. in Davenport, Iowa for 20 years.  Amanda gained early experience working in the legal department of an insurance company, where she developed a lasting passion for defense litigation. That experience shaped her dedication to being a strong advocate for her clients throughout every stage of the litigation process.

Amanda’s practice encompasses all areas of civil litigation, with an emphasis on personal injury defense, complex litigation/traumatic brain injury defense, dram shop litigation, medical and pharmaceutical malpractice, insurance bad faith, employment and labor law, and premises liability.   She is an accomplished appellate advocate and prolific legal writer, handling administrative and civil appeals in both Iowa and Illinois. Amanda frequently presents at professional seminars and conferences, sharing insights on discovery, trial tactics, and is passionate about training young lawyers. 

A respected leader in the defense bar, Amanda is a Fellow of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers and serves on its Board of Governors. She served on the Board of Directors of Iowa Defense Counsel Association from 2010-2025, serving as President from 2023 to 2024 and has received numerous honors, including the DRI Exceptional Performance Citation, the Iowa Defense Counsel President’s Award, and the Edward F. Seitzinger Award. She is a member of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, Defense Research Institute, and multiple state and local bar associations. Amanda is a member of the Civil Jury Database committee, where she helps to track civil jury trends across the state.  She has earned a Martindale-Hubbell AV Rating and has been Lead Counsel verified since 2021. In 2021, she was selected by the Iowa Supreme Court to serve on the Iowa Rules of Evidence Substantive Review Task Force, which evaluated and recommended substantive updates to the Iowa Rules of Evidence. 

Amanda resides in the Quad Cities with her husband, Todd, and their three children, Jocelyn, Hayden, and Landon. She is active in her community, volunteering through the Pleasant Valley Community School District and serving as a certified therapy dog handler with her golden retrievers, Skylar and Remy, through the Quad Cities Canine Assistance Network (QCCAN).
